Concept: “Reframing the vernacular”
A contemporary interpretation of Nepalese architectural identity
The restaurant celebrates the warmth and cultural identity of Nepalese architecture through a contemporary design approach. Traditional materials, colours and craftsmanship are reinterpreted to create a space that feels distinctly Nepalese while remaining modern and sophisticated. Elements such as terracotta tiles, timber, earthy textures and muted red tones are translated into contemporary forms and details. Custom-made copper and brass lighting fixtures draw inspiration from traditional Nepalese craftsmanship, adding warmth and creating a distinctive visual identity within the space.
The design aims to bring the warmth and character of a Thakali dining experience into a commercial environment. Layered textures, earthy materials, warm lighting and carefully integrated cultural elements create an intimate and inviting atmosphere.
Rather than directly replicating traditional architecture, the concept reinterprets its essence through modern materials, detailing, colour and lighting creating a balance between Nepalese heritage and contemporary restaurant design.
